| Roger has been an Area
Director for NM USSSA since 1986 with all but 3 years
in the Clovis/Portales Area.
He has been a director for the CSA since 1986 (missing
3 years when they moved away) But came back!
Roger was one of the original three that started the
Custom Classic in 1983. This tournament has grown to
as many as 130 teams in 2003 and is well known as “one
of the biggies that everyone in the area must attend”.
Roger was instrumental in starting the CSA Fall Leagues
in 1990 and also the CSA’s Halloween Howwwl.
Roger started the NM USSSA Youth Slo-Pitch State Tournament
in 1990 with 13 teams and last year in Clovis had 61
teams.
Roger has been the recipient of numerous awards with
USSSA with his most notables being in 1994 he received
the “Mel Butram Award” for the Midwest Division and
in 2002 he was inducted into the New Mexico USSSA Hall
of Fame, and the Custom Classic received the Midwest
Division highest award “The Whole Enchilada Tournament
of the year”, and just recently Roger was awarded the
NM USSSA Director of the Year award for 2003 and in
2004 NM USSSA Area of the Year.
He is well known all over the state and division as
a hard nosed Director, but we all know where his heart
is.
